Leather Waves Newsletter October 2012

Leather has made a re-entry into high fashion in a big way. All the top designers are using it, as well as some of the derivatives; faux leather, suede or PVC (Patent Vinyl Cloth) and faux furs.

I get excited watching the runway shows for trends. Stretch Leather is so perfect for the skinny pants you see everywhere for men and women. Leather doesn’t stretch so what manufacturers do  is to fuse a stretch lycra fabric to the back of a particular leather that has been skinned down and is thin. The leather then has some memory and will snap back into shape…this stuff is awesome. You can get a great skinny fit and the garment will stretch with your movements.

For women the skinny pants are worn with everything. My favorite combination that looks very new, is skinny pants under short dresses. The leather pants are being shown short around the ankles with small slits at the bottom or not, with a slim possibly A-line modern and cleanly designed leather dress. The dress can sport different sleeve lengths and different necklines, sexy to business appropriate. For evening the same leggings can be paired with voluminous chiffon dresses or shirts that see through to the body, fabulous lingerie or slip/undershirt, depending on how outrageous you wish to be, be sure to let them see your skinny leather pants underneath! Or the little leather dress, anywhere, anytime. These fashions are the perfect palette for showing off the amazing and height-defying lift of your high heels and platforms. So many of the new shoes are like works of art and need to be SEEN!

Big coats cover these skinny and slim garments look great, with full shapes, soft shoulders, big buttons or lots of wrap. The knee-length fitted or A-line coat is modern, as well as any version of the classic trench coat. Even the shorter jacket with more volume, is perfect over your other body-hugging garments.

Men’s pants are skinny and long in the rise, very modern, especially with the new smaller cut jackets, shorter, slimmer and sexy. Any size man can wear it especially if it’s custom made to his size requirements and the drape is natural.

Lots of my favorite colors this year, black black and more black (so classic and such a staple for your wardrobe), all the shades of grey you can imagine from soft and pale to gunmetal shiny and almost black. Subdued grapes and army greens or burgundy, rich but not too bright are complimentary to these soft and subtle color schemes.

Looking forward to seeing you again at Leather Waves this season, the newest version of my shop and gallery are begging for your visit, still in Malibu, same phone number, the best place to get your custom leathers created, always committed to your full satisfaction with every purchase, and ready to put my 40+ years of experience to work for YOU!
